Types of generative AI platforms

Hyperscaler platforms

Azure AI Foundry, Google Vertex AI and Amazon Bedrock sit inside a large cloud account. They share that cloud's identity system, network controls, billing and compliance scope, and they resell models from several makers next to the cloud vendor's own. They suit companies whose workloads already run there.

Data platforms with an AI layer

Databricks Mosaic AI and IBM watsonx start from governed data and model lifecycle tooling instead of a model catalog. Databricks builds on its lakehouse and Unity Catalog, while IBM pairs watsonx.ai with watsonx.governance. They suit teams whose hardest problem is lineage and control, not model access.

Open model hubs

Hugging Face is the public home of open models and datasets, with paid Team and Enterprise tiers, private repositories and dedicated Inference Endpoints. It fits organizations that want to pick, inspect and host open weights themselves, and that accept more assembly work than a hyperscaler asks for.

Model-maker platforms

Mistral AI and Cohere sell their own model families through a platform, with deployment choices that reach into a customer's own cloud or data center. They suit buyers who want a smaller vendor, a specific data location, or a model running behind their own firewall.
