Types of AI meeting assistants

Bot-joins-the-call recorders

These tools send a participant to your Zoom, Meet or Teams call, which records on the vendor's servers even if your laptop is closed. Otter, Fireflies, Read AI and Avoma work this way. The cost is visibility: everyone sees the bot, and some hosts block it.

On-device, bot-free note takers

These capture the audio your computer plays and picks up, so nobody else sees a participant join. Granola is built entirely this way, and Fathom and Krisp offer it as an option. The trade-off is that the app must be open on your own machine.

Sales and revenue meeting tools

Avoma and the higher tiers of Fathom, Fireflies and tl;dv add call scoring, deal views and two-way CRM field updates. They suit teams that review customer calls and coach reps, and they cost noticeably more per seat than a plain note taker.

Meeting-management suites

Fellow wraps the notes inside agendas, shared action items and recurring one-on-one templates. It suits managers who run the same meetings every week and want the notes attached to the plan, rather than sitting in a standalone recording archive nobody reopens.
